How is engagement rate calculated?
This calculator uses total interactions divided by followers, times 100. So 500 likes and 50 comments on an account with 10,000 followers is a 5.5% engagement rate.
What counts as a good engagement rate?
As a rough guide, under 1% is low, 1% to 3% is average, 3% to 6% is good and above 6% is strong. Smaller accounts typically post higher rates than large ones, so compare against accounts of a similar size rather than against the biggest names in your niche.
Should I measure against followers or reach?
Engagement by followers is the standard for comparing accounts and is what brands usually ask for. Engagement by reach tells you more about whether an individual post resonated, because it excludes followers who never saw it.
Why do rates differ so much between platforms?
Because each platform surfaces content differently. TikTok distributes heavily beyond your followers, so rates measured against followers can look inflated, while Facebook shows organic posts to a small fraction of followers, which drags rates down.
