Approval Workflow
Nothing publishes until you approve it

A per-post approval gate built into the publishing pipeline itself. Drafts stay drafts until a human marks them approved: the scheduler skips them and the publish API refuses them. Included on every plan, Free onward.

Content Drifter has a built-in social media approval workflow: every post carries an approval gate enforced server-side in the publishing pipeline, so nothing goes live until a human approves it. The review step edits the post inline with per-platform validation (character limits, hashtag limits, required media), and clients can approve from a share link without an account. Included on every plan, including Free.

What is the approval workflow?

Every post in Content Drifter carries an approval flag. Until someone in your workspace flips it, the post cannot go out: not by the scheduler, not by Auto-Pilot, not by clicking publish. Approval is a hard gate in the pipeline, not a UI suggestion.

That single mechanic is the difference between “AI that posts for you” and AI you can trust with your brand. Generate a week of content in one sitting, then approve on your schedule; nothing ships by accident.

Enforced in the pipeline, not just the interface

Most tools treat approval as a label. Here it is enforced twice, server-side:

  • The auto-publish scheduler skips any post that has not been approved, even if its scheduled time has passed. Overdue unapproved posts surface as “Review & publish” in your calendar instead of silently going live.
  • The publish API refuses unapproved posts outright, so no integration or shortcut can bypass the gate.
  • Each approval is timestamped, and calendar badges show at a glance which posts are still waiting on review.

Review that catches real mistakes

The Review & Approve step opens the post exactly as it will publish, with inline editing and per-platform guardrails:

  • Character limits per network, flagged before you approve, not after a platform rejects the post.
  • Hashtag limits checked against each platform’s rules.
  • Missing-media warnings when a network requires an image the post does not have.
  • Media preview and a brand-voice match indicator, so what you approve is what your audience sees, in your voice.

Light enough for one person

Approval workflows are usually sold as enterprise ceremony. This one is deliberately lightweight: if you are a solo creator, the gate is simply your own final look before the world sees the post. Approve straight from the editor when you are confident, or open the full review step when it matters.

No setup, no roles to configure, no IT ticket. It works the same on the Free plan as it does on Agency.

For teams: one shared source of truth

In a shared workspace, everyone sees the same calendar and the same approval states. A teammate can draft, another can review, edit, and approve; badges keep the whole board honest about what is ready and what is waiting.

Clients do not need an account. Share a review link and they approve or request changes straight from the browser, on any device. Links expire, you can revoke one at any time, and every decision is recorded with the reviewer’s name. Honest scope note: teams can require an internal release before a post is eligible, so a member drafts and an owner or admin approves, and client review can sit in front of publishing too. What is not supported is a configurable chain with named stages (internal, then client, then legal). If you need that, a dedicated approvals tool still fits better, and we would rather tell you that than oversell this.

On every plan, because trust is not an upsell

Most competitors paywall approvals behind team or agency tiers. Content Drifter includes the approval gate on Free, Starter, Pro, and Agency: the same server-side enforcement at every price, including no price at all.

Pair it with the Content Calendar, Auto-Publishing, and Multi-Platform Publishing for the full loop: generate, review, approve, publish, learn.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a social media approval workflow?

A process where posts must be explicitly approved before they publish. In Content Drifter it is a hard gate: the auto-publish scheduler skips unapproved posts and the publish API refuses them, so approval is enforced by the pipeline, not just shown in the interface.

Does Content Drifter block publishing until a post is approved?

Yes. Every post carries an approval flag checked in two places server-side: the scheduler will not send an unapproved post even after its slot passes (it surfaces as "Review & publish" instead), and the publish API rejects unapproved posts outright. Each approval is timestamped.

What does the review step validate?

The Review & Approve step opens the post as it will publish, with inline editing plus per-platform checks: character limits, hashtag limits, missing required media, media preview, and a brand-voice match indicator.

Is the approval workflow free?

Yes. The same server-side approval gate is included on Free, Starter, Pro, and Agency. Most competitors paywall approvals behind team tiers; Content Drifter does not.

Can clients approve posts without logging in?

Yes. Share a review link and the client opens it in a browser, sees each post as it will publish, and approves or requests changes without creating an account. Links carry an expiry, can be revoked instantly, and record who decided what. Teams can also require an internal release first: with approval switched on, a member drafts and an owner or admin marks the post ready, so internal sign-off and client sign-off can both stand in front of a post.

Do solo creators need an approval workflow?

It is the fastest way to batch safely: generate a week of posts, then approve each one after a final look. Content Drifter keeps it lightweight, so a solo creator can approve straight from the editor with zero setup, roles, or ceremony.
