Two surfaces, one library

The same 96+ hook templates power two complementary surfaces — one public, one inside the product:

  • Public hook library — browse, filter, and copy. No account, no card. Filter by platform (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads), persona (creator, founder, small business, agency), or category. Click to copy the template to clipboard. Use it anywhere — Drifter or not.
  • In-product “Rewrite hook” button — every generated post in your dashboard has a one-click action that rewrites the opening 1-2 sentences with a hook from this library. The body of your post stays untouched. Pick a category if you want, or let the AI choose.

Both surfaces share the same curated quality bar. What you copy on the public tool is what the AI rewrites with inside the product — no “the free thing is worse” bait-and- switch.

11 categories, all covered

The library is organized into the categories that consistently outperform on social platforms. Each category has 8–15 templates, each template has a real example so you see the structure and a realistic instantiation:

Questions

Open with a question your reader can't help but answer in their head.

Statistics

Lead with a specific number that makes the reader stop scrolling.

Story openers

Drop into the middle of a story so the reader needs to stay for the rest.

Contrarian takes

Challenge a widely-held belief in your space. Earns saves and replies.

List hooks

Promise a numbered payoff so the reader knows exactly what they're getting.

Curiosity gaps

Create a small, irresistible information gap the reader has to close.

Social proof

Lead with proof that someone real has done this thing before.

Urgency / FOMO

Time-bound or scarcity-bound openers. Use sparingly.

Lessons / mistakes

Open with what you got wrong. Builds trust and earns attention faster than humble-bragging.

Hot takes

A short, punchy, opinion-laden line. High reach, high risk.

Myth-busting

Identify a common myth in your industry and dismantle it in the first sentence.

Filter by where you'll actually post it

A hook that hits on LinkedIn often dies on X (and vice versa). The library lets you filter to where the hook actually performs:

  • By platform — X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads. Each hook is tagged with the surfaces where it earns reach.
  • By persona — creator, founder, small business, agency. A “client win” hook lands differently on a personal brand than on an agency account; the persona filter saves you scrolling past the mismatched ones.
  • By keyword — search across templates, examples, and tags. Find every “mistake I made” pattern in one keystroke.
  • By tone — every hook is tagged casual, professional, bold, or playful so you can match your brand voice without reading the example first.

The in-product rewriter, explained

Every generated post in the dashboard has a Rewrite hook button under the platform-specific output. Click it and:

  1. A small panel shows the 11 categories with one-line descriptions. Pick a category, or click “Let the AI pick” to let it choose based on your post topic.
  2. The AI rewrites only the opening 1-2 sentences using a template from the chosen category, in your Brand Kit voice. Your post body, hashtags, and CTA stay verbatim.
  3. You see the new hook diffed against the old one. Keep, undo, or try again with a different category. No credit cost on undo.

The output is constrained: the rewriter only picks from the curated library, never invents a generic “Unlock the secrets of …” opener. That's the whole point — the quality bar of the library is the floor of what the rewriter can produce.

Why we maintain this by hand instead of asking the LLM each time

Most hook generators just call an LLM with “write me a catchy hook for this topic” — and the LLM happily produces recycled motivational fluff. The library exists because the curated, human-vetted set actually performs:

  • Battle-tested — every template was selected from posts that demonstrably out-engage the LLM-default opener. We don't accept hooks that just “sound good”; they have to have worked.
  • Genre-correct — a myth-bust hook actually busts a myth. A statistic hook leads with a real, specific number. Categories aren't cosmetic tags; they're structural patterns.
  • Anti-cliché filtered — “Unlock the secrets of …”, “Game-changer …”, “Let's dive in …” and the rest of the LLM-tell vocabulary are explicitly banned. If you've ever wondered why LLM-generated posts feel off, this is half the reason.
  • Stable shareable URLs — every hook has a permanent ID. Bookmark a category, share a specific hook with a teammate, deep-link from another doc. We never reuse a retired ID.

Where it fits in the workflow

The hook system shows up in three places once you're inside Drifter, all sharing this same library:

  • On every generated post — the “Rewrite hook” button described above.
  • In the new-post composer — when you start from a blank topic, you can pick a hook category up front to bias the entire generation toward that opening style.
  • In the daily content prompt — the daily prompt banner sometimes suggests a hook category that fits the topic of the day, so a one-click generation comes pre-styled.

And the public tool is always free, always there, always pulls from the same library — so users who discover us through “social media hooks” on Google get the real thing immediately, not a stripped-down demo.
