Instagram Line Break Tool for Captions and Bios

The feed stops after 2 lines and shows "… more". A blank line counts as a line.
How to add a line break on Instagram
- Caption. Type your caption and press Return for a new line. Press it twice for a blank line between paragraphs. A caption holds 2,200 characters, and every line break is one of them.
- Bio. Open your profile, tap Edit profile and type in the Bio field, pressing Return for each new line. A bio holds 150 characters, line breaks included.
- Paste, do not retype. If you write the text somewhere else, use a plain-text notes app so no formatting comes along, and paste it into the box above first to clear the trailing spaces.
- Save, then look. Reopen the profile or the post on your phone. If a blank line has gone, tick the option to hold each blank line, copy the result and paste it again.
Why Instagram drops blank lines
Instagram does not say. Its Help Center has no article on line breaks: we searched it on 15 October 2026 and its own assistant answered that none of the articles it found specifically detail how to add one. What follows comes from three guides written by other people, not from Instagram.
They agree on the usual causes and fixes. Metricool calls a space at the end of a line the most frequent culprit, and Metriwo names it too. Metricool adds that text pasted from a word processor can carry hidden characters and that Instagram may condense a long run of blank lines, so one blank line between paragraphs is enough. Writing in a plain-text notes app and pasting is the common fix, and all three end with the same last resort, an invisible character.
They disagree about how often it happens. Metricool says the app now allows line breaks but can sometimes remove them. Metriwo says the caption field often trims a plain line break when you save. SocialRails says blank lines vanish from a bio on save, and gives no source for why. None of them says how it tested its advice, so treat the fixes as things to try and check on your own account. For a bio, Metricool and Metriwo call the Edit profile page on instagram.com the most reliable or most consistent place to save, and Metriwo and SocialRails say to look at the result on a phone as well.
The invisible character, and what it costs
The character this tool uses is U+2800, the Braille pattern blank. It draws as empty space, and Unicode does not class it as white space: its White_Space property list leaves it out and includes the no-break space. So a tool that trims spaces from a line leaves it alone. SocialRails recommends it and Metricool shows it, so it is the one character we offer.
It is a real character, so it counts. Each held blank line costs one of the caption's 2,200 or the bio's 150, on top of the line break itself, and on X it would weigh 2. If you copy the caption to another network, the characters go with it.
We found no published test of how screen readers handle it. Hold only the blank lines that need it, and keep your first line, links and calls to action in ordinary text.
What the feed shows before more
A feed does not show the whole caption. In our Instagram post preview the cut comes after the first 125 characters or two lines, whichever comes first, and a blank line counts as a line. So the line break you press right after your opening decides what a scroller reads.

Put the hook on line one and the next sentence on line two, and save the blank line for after them. The Instagram post preview shows any caption this way, hashtags and all.
