Content Drifter runs a hosted MCP server at https://www.contentdrifter.com/api/mcp that ChatGPT can use as a custom connector. After you sign in, ChatGPT can read your Brand Kit, calendar and connected networks, write posts, save them as drafts and, only on your confirmation, publish one that has passed Final Review. It is added as a custom MCP server; it is not listed in the ChatGPT app directory. Connecting an assistant is included on Lite and up (from Lite at $15/mo); the Free plan does not include it.

Add Content Drifter to ChatGPT

Content Drifter works in ChatGPT as a custom connector (a custom MCP server, sometimes called a developer-mode connector). It is not listed in ChatGPT's app directory, so you add it yourself. OpenAI's guide notes that account and workspace policies apply to adding and using custom MCP servers.

  1. Find where ChatGPT adds a custom MCP server. OpenAI’s guide for adding a custom MCP server says to open ChatGPT Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. If your screen looks different, follow OpenAI’s current guide linked at the end of this page; the URL and the sign-in below do not change.
  2. Enter the Content Drifter URL. Give it a name and a short description, choose a public endpoint as the connection, and paste the address below.https://www.contentdrifter.com/api/mcp
  3. Choose sign-in as the authentication. Configure authentication so ChatGPT signs in with your Content Drifter account (our server uses OAuth and publishes its sign-in details itself, so nothing is copied by hand; choose the sign-in option if you are asked). Read the risk notice, continue, and create the connector.
  4. Sign in and review the tools. ChatGPT lists the seven tools it found. Sign in with your Content Drifter account and approve access. Check each tool call ChatGPT shows you before you confirm it, especially anything that saves or publishes.

Steps for ChatGPT follow the vendor's own guides, read on October 14, 2026: OpenAI guide: connect a custom MCP server to ChatGPT.

The 7 tools ChatGPT gets

Each tool does one thing, and a tool that only reads is never the same tool as one that writes. Read tools are marked read-only; the tool that publishes is marked destructive, so ChatGPT treats it with more care.

  • Write a post generate_post writes
Can: Write one post for one network in your Brand Kit voice, with hashtags and an image prompt. It counts toward your monthly post allowance.
Cannot: Save, schedule or publish the post, or make an image or a video.
  • List workspaces list_workspaces read-only
Can: List the live client workspaces and which one is primary.
Cannot: Create, rename or archive a workspace.
  • Save a post to the calendar schedule_post writes
Can: Save a post you wrote, for a network you have connected, as a draft or queued at a time, with optional media.
Cannot: Publish, edit or delete a post, or skip Final Review.
  • List upcoming posts list_upcoming_posts read-only
Can: Show what is on the calendar in a date range, with each post id and status.
Cannot: Show published posts or analytics.
  • List connected networks list_platform_connections read-only
Can: Show which networks are connected and whether a connection needs attention.
Cannot: Connect or disconnect a network, which is done in the app.
  • Read the Brand Kit get_brand_kit read-only
Can: Read the voice rules the generator applies.
    Cannot: Change the Brand Kit.
  • Publish a post now publish_now writes, destructive
Can: Send one post that has passed Final Review to its network right now, only when you confirm.
Cannot: Publish a post that has not passed Final Review, delete or edit a published post, or publish in bulk.

What it will not do on its own

  • schedule_post saves a draft unless you ask for "scheduled", and a queued post still needs Final Review in the app before it can auto-publish.
  • publish_now does nothing unless the call carries confirm set to true, and it refuses a post that has not passed Final Review.
  • There is no delete tool, no analytics tool and no image or video tool on this server.
  • Every call runs as the signed-in person: their plan, their workspace and their connected networks, with the same limits as the app (100 reads and 30 writes per 60 seconds for your account).

The approval step is the one in the app, not a setting in ChatGPT: how Final Review works.

Prompts to start with

These are examples of what the 7 tools support, each written to land on tools that exist. They assume the networks you name are connected in Content Drifter; Instagram and Pinterest posts also need a public image address, and TikTok and YouTube a video.

  1. “Which social networks do I have connected on Content Drifter, and does any connection need attention?”
    Uses: list_platform_connections
  2. “Read my Content Drifter Brand Kit and tell me in two sentences how my posts should sound.”
    Uses: get_brand_kit
  3. “Write a LinkedIn post for Content Drifter about why a first draft should wait for approval. Do not save it yet.”
    Uses: generate_post
Writing a post counts toward your monthly post allowance, the same as in the app.
  4. “Write three X posts about our launch week in my brand voice and save each one as a draft for next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9am.”
    Uses: generate_post, schedule_post
The posts land as drafts on your calendar. Open the link in the reply to review each one.
  5. “What is on my Content Drifter calendar for the next 7 days? Point out any day with nothing planned.”
    Uses: list_upcoming_posts
  6. “List my Content Drifter workspaces, then write an Instagram post for the client workspace called Northside Bakery.”
    Uses: list_workspaces, generate_post
For accounts that manage more than one brand. generate_post takes the workspace id; the other tools use your primary workspace.
  7. “Before I schedule next week, check which of my networks are connected and which posts are already queued for Friday.”
    Uses: list_platform_connections, list_upcoming_posts
  8. “Publish the draft you just saved right now.”
    Uses: publish_now
The assistant must ask you first, and the post must have passed Final Review in the app. Otherwise nothing is published.

Plan and limits

The connector is included on Lite and up (from Lite at $15/mo); the Free plan does not include it. It signs in with your own account, so your plan's post allowance, workspaces and connected networks apply exactly as in the app. Rate limits are 100 reads and 30 writes per 60 seconds for your account; a request over the limit gets a 429 with a retry time.

Your data, and how to disconnect

The connector reads your workspace names, Brand Kit, calendar and connected networks, writes posts you ask for, and keeps a log of each tool call. It does not receive your conversation with ChatGPT. The full description is in the AI connectors section of the privacy policy.

To disconnect, remove Content Drifter in ChatGPT. For the developer setup with an API key instead of a sign-in, see the MCP server page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I add Content Drifter to ChatGPT?

Add it as a custom MCP server: paste https://www.contentdrifter.com/api/mcp as a public endpoint, configure authentication so it signs in with your Content Drifter account, and approve access with your Content Drifter account. OpenAI documents the screen in its guide for connecting a custom MCP server; follow its current guide if your labels differ.

Is Content Drifter listed in the ChatGPT app directory?

No. It works as a custom MCP server you add yourself (sometimes called a developer-mode connector), not as a listed app. OpenAI’s guide notes that account and workspace policies apply to adding and using custom MCP servers.

Which plan do I need to connect ChatGPT to Content Drifter?

Connecting an assistant is included on Lite and up (from Lite at $15/mo); the Free plan does not include it. The connector signs in with your own account and follows your plan’s limits, so it is another way into the same account rather than a second allowance.

Can ChatGPT publish to my social accounts without asking me?

No. schedule_post saves a draft unless you ask for a scheduled post, and a queued post still needs Final Review in the app. publish_now only runs when the call carries confirm set to true and the post has already passed Final Review. There is no delete tool and no bulk publish.

What can the connector read and write?

It has 7 tools: 4 read tools (workspaces, upcoming posts, connected networks, Brand Kit) and 3 write tools (write a post, save it to the calendar, publish one post). It does not make images or video, show analytics, edit or delete posts, or change your Brand Kit.

How do I disconnect it?

Remove the Content Drifter connector in ChatGPT. That ends its use of your sign-in. You can also email support from the contact page and we will revoke the access for you. Your posts and settings are not touched.

Does it cost extra?

No. There is no connector fee. Writing a post counts toward the monthly post allowance of your plan exactly as it does in the app, and the same limits apply (100 reads and 30 writes per 60 seconds for your account).
