LinkedIn Banner Size and Post Image Size

Updated . Part of the social media image sizes guide.
A LinkedIn personal banner (the background photo) is 1584 × 396 pixels (4:1), up to 8 MB; a Company Page cover is 1512 × 256 pixels and a Page logo 400 × 400, both under 3 MB. A post image can be any ratio from 3:1 to 4:5, at least 552 × 276 pixels and up to 5 MB, and LinkedIn recommends 1080 pixels wide. We checked every number against LinkedIn's own Help pages on October 15, 2026.

Check your image for LinkedIn
Choose an image and see, for each format, whether it fits, will be cropped and where, or fails because it is too small, too large or the wrong type. Then crop it to the exact size and download it. Your image is read in this browser and is never uploaded.

All LinkedIn image sizes
| Format | Size to design at | Ratio | Limits | Safe zone and notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Profile background photoSources 1, 2
4:1
Safe zone not published by the network. LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396. A GIF is not supported on a profile or background photo.
Profile photoSource 1
1:1
LinkedIn takes a profile photo from 400 × 400 up to 7680 × 4320 px and recommends one that needs little cropping. 400 × 400 is its stated minimum, not a recommended size.
Company Page coverSource 3
5.91:1
Safe zone not published by the network. LinkedIn gives the same size as minimum and recommended, and asks for a high-resolution JPEG over a PNG and for key details away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner. It publishes no pixel margins.
Company Page logoSource 3
1:1
The logo shows on light and dark backgrounds, and a transparent logo is shown on white.
Post imageSources 2, 4
The network publishes a range, not a size. These are common sizes inside it. | 3:1 to 4:5 LinkedIn centres a wider image and crops it to fit the 3:1 limit. |
LinkedIn accepts a photo from 552 × 276 px and recommends 1080 px wide. Posts show at 4:5 at most. A post takes up to 20 photos. HEIC uploads from iOS only, and no photo is above 36 megapixels.
Link preview (Page post)Source 3
1.91:1
LinkedIn asks for 1.91:1 at 1200 × 627 for the image of a Page post with a link, and for an image wider than 200 px: narrower than that it becomes a thumbnail on the left of the post. On mobile other ratios show in full with white padding.
| Document carouselSource 2 | Not published by the network | No ratio rule published |
A LinkedIn carousel is a document post, so you upload a PDF, not images. LinkedIn takes documents up to 100 MB and 300 pages.

Company Page cover: 1512 × 256, not 1128 × 191
LinkedIn's Help article on Page images lists the cover at 1512 × 256 pixels as both the minimum and the recommended size, the logo at 268 × 268 minimum and 400 × 400 recommended, and asks for PNG or JPEG files under 3 MB. If a guide gives 1128 × 191 or 4200 × 700 for the cover, it does not match that page as checked on October 15, 2026.
LinkedIn trims a cover to the screen, so it asks for a high-resolution JPEG with little text and key details away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner. It publishes no pixel margins.
Profile photo and personal banner
A profile photo can be anything from 400 × 400 up to 7680 × 4320 pixels and up to 8 MB, as PNG or JPG; a GIF is not supported on a profile or background photo. 400 × 400 is the minimum LinkedIn states, not a recommended size.
The background photo is recommended at 1584 × 396 (4:1), with the same 8 MB limit. LinkedIn publishes no safe zone for it.
Post images: a range, not one size
A photo in a post must be at least 552 × 276 pixels and 5 MB or less, and LinkedIn recommends 1080 pixels wide. The ratio can run from 3:1 down to 4:5 (width to height); a wider image is centred and cropped to the 3:1 limit.
A post takes up to 20 photos. In a multi-photo post the images render at 4:5 at most, the first one gets the most space, and the layout depends on whether it is landscape or portrait. LinkedIn also lists WebP, GIF and, from iOS, HEIC, with a ceiling of 36 megapixels.
Carousels are PDFs
A LinkedIn carousel is a document post: you upload a PDF, not images, and LinkedIn takes documents up to 100 MB and 300 pages. Our carousel size guide has the slide sizes.
Link preview on a Page post
For a Page post with a link, LinkedIn asks for 1.91:1 at 1200 × 627 and an image wider than 200 pixels. Narrower than that it becomes a thumbnail on the left of the post.
LinkedIn mistakes to avoid
- Using an old Company Page cover size
- The cover is 1512 × 256 now. An image of 1128 × 191 is below LinkedIn's minimum of 1512 × 256, and our checker fails it for that reason.
- A post photo over 5 MB
- LinkedIn's Help article for photos in a post states 5 MB as the limit. Compress the image or export a JPEG.
- Uploading images when you meant a carousel
- Images make a multi-photo post, not a swipeable carousel. A carousel is one PDF, where each page is a slide.
- A GIF as a profile or background photo
- LinkedIn does not support GIFs on a profile or background photo. Use PNG or JPG.
- A panorama wider than 3:1
- LinkedIn centres it and crops it to fit 3:1, so the left and right edges are lost. Crop it yourself to choose what stays.
- More than 20 photos
- LinkedIn takes 20 per post, and Content Drifter stops a 21st image with "LinkedIn accepts at most 20 images per post".
